Discussing Military Veteran Career Development - Matthew James Wang
I was featured on NASDAQ Trade Talks with Global Markets reporter Jill Malandrino for a special segment highlighting the impact of military veterans among public companies.
Military veterans are put through intensive training programs and gain many transferable skills they can use in their next career after serving. During the interview, I discussed how my personal military experiences equipped me for the corporate world and gave advice to active service members readying themselves to transition out of the military.

“I served as an intelligence officer and one of the skills I developed from that role is to analyze information on a relatively quick basis while often times under duress. Now that I’m in the corporate world, I feel I’m able to deal with high-stress situations in a relatively calm manner. That is something I learned and perfected during my time in the military. The ability to make level-headed decisions in times of high pressure has really helped me out in my career in the finance industry.”
“My advice to someone transitioning out of the military into their corporate career is to start early. It is never too early to start preparing for when you get out. Everyone eventually transitions out of the military, whether you stay in for a year or you retire after thirty years. So start networking now, reaching career options, and planning for your next step.”
