Implementing strategies that foster the expansion and success of a business are vital. The three key strategies that can be employed to achieve this is mentorship, re-evaluation, and restructuring. These can ultimately enhance productivity, lead to better decision making and cultivate a more defined sense of purpose for employees.

We are in conversation with Susan E. Stephens, an orthopedic surgeon, business owner, consultant and entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience. Susan offers consultation to various companies that are involved with social and environmental justice, and finance and works with a broad range of food and healthcare startups.

With over 30 years of experience in the consulting space, you have helped several businesses escalate their growth. Can you tell us more about this?

You have also been a part of mentorship efforts — can you elaborate on this please?

“I am fortunate to be surrounded by a network of accomplished individuals who share diverse business concepts and enterprises for me to look over and give advice on (consult). This attests to the trust they have in me and my business understanding. Concerning mentorship, while I certainly engage in individual mentoring, I hold the perspective that the scope of influence extends beyond the conventional. Mentorship, in my view, is not confined to rigid structures; rather, it permeates various dimensions, including the spiritual.

“Acknowledging the profound impact of the environment around us, mentorship takes on a dynamic and all-encompassing nature. Everything in our surroundings possesses the potential to impart valuable insights and lessons. The notion that mentorship can be spiritual comes from the idea that wisdom and guidance can emanate from unexpected sources. In adopting a more expansive view, mentorship becomes a fluid and holistic process, transcending traditional boundaries.

“As an illustrative example, in the aftermath of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, our organization underwent a comprehensive restructuring initiative. Faced with situational complexities, we addressed these challenges by refining our processes, introducing a committee system to enhance project planning and execution.

“I firmly believe that ‘the sky is the limit.’ By meticulously fine-tuning organizational structures, we streamline processes, rendering them more manageable, and empowering us to achieve ambitious objectives. In embracing the spiritual facet of mentorship, we recognize the diverse sources from which wisdom and inspiration can emanate, fostering a more dynamic and adaptive approach to guidance and growth.”

Thank you Susan for your time. It was a pleasure.
