Implementing Environmental & Social Justice in Companies - In conversation with Susan E. Stephens
Incorporating environmental and social justice in companies includes taking a holistic approach towards sustainability. It involves recognizing the interconnectedness between social environmental and economic issues and taking proactive steps to address them. The actions can range from fundraising for a social cause, to reducing waste and carbon emissions to name a few.
We are in conversation with Susan E. Stephens, an orthopedic surgeon, business owner, consultant, and entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience. A highly energetic and creative entrepreneur, Susan is passionate about implementing environmental and social justice in companies.
How can the companies and startups you are working with benefit from your passion and expertise for environmental and social justice? As an activist, how do you bring in fundraising and campaigning in the startups and companies you work with?
“I am passionate about orchestrating the convergence of synergies, energies, and individuals, facilitating meaningful dialogue among diverse professional groups to collectively address challenges and advance shared causes. My professional pursuits align with organizations that champion noteworthy causes such as women’s health, family planning, food security, environmental justice, and climate change.
“An example involves initiating contact with an insurance company dedicated to providing coverage for fertility-related issues. In particular, the company addresses the financial challenges associated with egg preservation, offering insurance coverage that mitigates the exorbitant costs often associated with egg-freezing treatments. By making such treatments more financially accessible and affordable, this initiative seeks to alleviate the burdens faced by women seeking to preserve their eggs.
“My passion extends to family planning for men and women in today’s environment, recognizing its pivotal role in navigating the complexities of balancing professional commitments with personal life. Family planning, beyond its individual impact, plays a crucial role in facilitating informed decision-making concerning the initiation and management of families. Additionally, it catalyzes promoting gender equality and fostering inclusivity within the professional sphere.”
“In essence, I am deeply committed to integrating these principles into the corporate fabric, aligning businesses with impactful causes, and contributing to a more equitable and sustainable future.”
Thank you, Susan.
