As the world acclimates itself to this new technological era and people are realizing the importance of creating a brand and online presence for themselves, women still tend to do this less than men. Why is that? Why do women feel less inclined to display their qualifications, achievements, and awards, as compared to men?

When a man receives an award, he usually tends to hang it up on his wall. However, when a woman wins an award, she tends to put it in her drawer — unnoticeable. We need to change this trend. Women need to be proud of all they have achieved, and unafraid to showcase that online and otherwise.

TalentNomics is a non-profit that has been working to expand the pool of female leaders worldwide by enhancing their confidence, capabilities, credibility, and connections. One of the crucial ways to do this is boosting online presence and allowing women the confidence to showcase their achievements.

With technological advances and the pandemic having pushed us into the realm of a virtual world, one’s brand and online presence has become a bona fide leadership tool. By expanding your online presence, you are essentially killing two birds with one stone: establishing your reputation as the thought leader you are, and further enhancing your company’s brand as well.

Crafting a strong and authentic personal brand and online presence, and taking charge of it is key. If you don’t take charge of your online brand, the search engines will do that for you. Building an online presence, regardless of your career stage, helps build trust with target audiences, and gives people an idea of who you really are. After all, you know what they say, ‘You are who Google says you are’. Online has become the first point of reference for any background check, and your first impression is made online — so make it count!

A strong personal brand and online presence provides you with a platform to communicate with your target audiences. It gives you an opportunity to create the narrative about who you are, what your brand is, and what sets you apart from others. A personal brand and an online presence can extend to all the touch points the target audience may have with you. To put your best foot forward, it is key to define your brand, and then actually bolster all aspects of it online.

Your brand should be like a galaxy of information about you. Who are you? What do you believe in? What values do you hold? What is your leadership style? It is less about your past and your previous roles, and more about who you are. Many fear starting the journey of creating their brand and establishing themselves online. However, the secret sauce behind creating an impactful personal brand and online presence isn’t a secret at all. Just be authentic, keep it updated, relevant, and interesting. Easy, isn’t it?
